Ideas for Principle #18

💡 An electric toothbrush - helps us, through its motion and vibration, brush our teeth better and reach each tooth individually.

Shaking a box of toys or cookies - creating vibration in the box helps us move the toys or cookies aside to make room, or to find small pieces that fell down so we can now find them.

A phone set to vibrate - instead of a loud ring, the phone vibrates to gently let us know a message arrived, even when we're somewhere quiet.

Hard to find crumbs or small pieces stuck in a narrow spot?!
You can't always fit your hand in, or see where they disappeared to.

Try thinking: how can we make something move on its own, without touching it directly?

Sometimes a small, rhythmic movement does what we couldn't manage by force.

Do you know the game with the little ball that you move through a maze, aiming to get it into the hole at the end of the track?
If we move the game with movements that are too sharp, we won't manage to move the ball into the hole in the track efficiently.
But if we move the board slowly, with gentle, repetitive movements (just like a vibration), we'll manage to move the ball better and reach the target at the end of the track!

Our body can also relax with vibration
Have you noticed that sometimes when you're stressed, your leg moves quickly up and down on the floor - your toes touch the floor and your leg sort of vibrates?
Or when your leg falls asleep, we try to "wake it up" with gentle movements and "vibration," because otherwise it really hurts.

Our muscles love vibration, because it helps them loosen up, relax, and let go.
Vibration improves blood flow and reduces tension throughout the body.

If you sometimes feel stressed, try standing on your tiptoes and simply lowering your heels down and raising them back up, or you can also jump - do it repeatedly and really fast, and feel your whole body moving, as if vibrating. This will help you loosen up, relax, and let go.

Ready for a challenge? We've prepared some extra challenges for you to try

Try checking this together. Gently shake a box of toys or cookies, and see whether a small vibration moves things that weren't moving before.

Easy
1. Check together whether an electric toothbrush feels different from a regular one, and why.
2. Ask your child when the phone's vibration helps them more than a loud ring.

A bit of a stretch
3. Choose together to put 5 ₪ in a piggy bank every day for two weeks, and check how much you've collected at the end.
4. Check together whether gently shaking a box helps find small pieces that got stuck, compared to searching by hand.

Challenge for champions
5. Ask your child to invent a new toy that moves only thanks to a small, continuous vibration, with no strong motor.
6. Try thinking together about a moment when the body feels stressed, and plan a vibration exercise or small movement that calms it down.
