Ideas for Principle #20

💡 A refrigerator - if we stop the refrigerator and it runs on and off, the food inside will spoil.

The internet - if the internet keeps cutting out, we can't get our work done smoothly.

Our heart - beats continuously without ever stopping, because if it stopped even for a moment, that would be dangerous.

Start something good and then stop, and afterward it's hard to get back to it?!
Every time you stop, you have to start almost from scratch.

The way to think about it: how can we make a good action keep happening continuously, without breaks that force us to start over?

When an action continues without stopping, it keeps building on itself the whole time - and never needs to be "restarted" from scratch.

Ready for a challenge? We've prepared some extra challenges for you to try

Try checking this together. For a moment, stop an action you usually let run continuously, like watering a plant, and see what happens.

Easy
1. Check together what happens when you stop running or jumping for a moment, compared to continuing without a break.
2. Ask your child what thing in their life happens all the time in the background without them even noticing.

A bit of a stretch
3. Choose together to move a fixed amount to savings every week without stopping, and check after a month whether it's easier than saving that you only remember sometimes.
4. Check together what happens to a refrigerator or another appliance if it stops for a moment, and why that's a problem.

Challenge for champions
5. Ask your child to design an imaginary machine or device that keeps running forever without stopping, and explain why that matters.
6. Try thinking together about a good habit your child started and then stopped, and plan how to make it continue this time, without stopping.
