A toy or device that responds to us or signals something to us
A doll that lights up or beeps when you press hard on its belly.
A toy that changes color on contact with water, to warn us that the water is hot.
A smoke detector - beeps when there's smoke, to warn us before there's a fire in the house, God forbid.
Doing something over and over and not sure if it's working?!Without any sign, it's hard to know if we're headed in the right direction.
Try thinking: how can we get a sign that tells us how we're doing, so we can fix and improve?Feedback that arrives in time helps us fix things right away, instead of finding out there was a problem only at the end.
Ready for a challenge? We've prepared some extra challenges for you to tryNow it's your turn to invent. Design your own imaginary gauge or detector that warns you when something's wrong.
Easy1. Find another device at home together that gives us a sign when something's wrong, and see how it warns us.
2. Ask your child what sign his body gives him when he's too tired or too hungry.
A bit of a stretch3. Choose together to check once a week how much money is left in the savings box, and mark it on a small chart.
4. Check together, after a week of regular checking, whether it's easier to control spending when you check regularly than when you don't check at all.
Challenge for champions5. Ask your child to design his own mood gauge or habit gauge that shows him at a glance how his week is going.
6. Try thinking together about an area of life that has no feedback at all, and plan a simple way to get a sign of progress in it.
