Ideas for Principle #28

💡 Using your voice to find a video or series on TV instead of typing on the remote or pressing buttons.

Driving a toy car with a remote control instead of with your hands.

Playing with letters stuck on the fridge door using magnets.

Hard to grab or move an object you want to control from a distance?!
Sometimes it's not possible, or not comfortable, to directly touch the thing you want to operate.

Try thinking: can you replace direct touch with voice, light, a remote, or an invisible force like a magnet?

When you replace physical touch with a "smarter" solution, you can control things from a distance and without effort.

Ready for a challenge? We've prepared some extra challenges for you to try

Now it's your turn to invent. Design a new way to do an everyday action without touching it by hand, using voice, light, or a magnet.

Easy
1. Find another thing at home together that can be operated without touch, by voice or by pressing a button from a distance.
2. Ask your child which everyday action he'd most like to happen by itself, without effort.

A bit of a stretch
3. Choose a simple expense-tracking tool together, an app or a table, and check if it makes tracking money easier.
4. Check together whether it's easier to find things in the room using a label or a color, compared to a regular search.

Challenge for champions
5. Ask your child to design an imaginary device that replaces a boring manual action with smart technology.
6. Try thinking together about an old household appliance, and imagine a future version of it that works only by voice or a light touch.
