Ideas for Money Wisdom #8
💡 When we use money to find balance like a counterweight, we need to think about how we can balance (as in "balanced," like on a scale) our expenses and income.
Once we make sure we're balanced in terms of income and expenses, we can manage things better.
It's usually best to keep a slight imbalance in favor of our savings, and always keep aside more than we spend.
This way we'll always be in a better position than a perfectly balanced one, since an imbalance that leans toward our savings will always help us further down the road.
If we spend more, then it's even more important to use a "counterweight" - and try to balance every expense with an opposite action that offsets it, so we don't end up in trouble :).
For example:
We got pocket money and we really want to go to a play center or an arcade or a show. We can use all the pocket money we got, or use only part of it in a balanced way and keep the other part in our savings jar for our big dream. When we balance our wallet, we make sure it has almost, or exactly, as much money in it as we spent.
And let's go back for a moment to the example on our card:
If you bought a treat/snack for ₪5, at that very moment, you should put ₪5 into the savings jar.
Every expense "pulls" your money outward, and every time we save money we're actually "pulling" it back in - exactly like the helium that offsets the weight of the balloon and makes it float, it basically cancels it out and lets the result happen... the balloon floats.
If we make sure every expense is balanced by a matching amount of savings, the savings will grow without us even noticing.
