💡
An apron - if we put it on before lunch, we won't get our shirt dirty.
A helmet and pads - if we put a helmet on our head and pads on our elbows and knees before we ride a bike / a horse, we can avoid injuring our head and limbs, so that if we fall, heaven forbid, we won't get hurt.
Sunscreen - if we put on sunscreen before we go outside to spend time in the sun, we protect our skin better and won't get sunburned while we're outside.
Shoes - we wear them so we don't step on stones / glass and other things on the ground.
An umbrella - we take an umbrella when it's raining so we don't get wet from the drops.
A sunshade/parasol - we use it to keep the sun's rays from burning our skin when we sit outside, and so we can be in a shadier, more pleasant spot.
Sometimes we fall or get hurt with no warning at all?!It's hard to prevent something we didn't see coming.
It's worth thinking ahead: what "protections" is it worth putting in place before the problem even happens? The moment we prepare protection in advance, we no longer need to deal with the damage after it happens - because it simply doesn't happen.
Ready for a challenge? We've prepared some extra challenges for you to tryGo together on a walk around the house and look for one more thing that exists to prevent a problem that hasn't happened yet, exactly like the apron and the sunscreen.
Easy1. Search the school bag together for one thing that's there to prevent a problem, like an umbrella or a water bottle.
2. Ask your child: do they have a memory of a time something felt unfair, and how could they have prevented it in advance.
A bit of a stretch3. Choose a fixed amount together to move to savings the moment they get pocket money, before they even see the money in their wallet.
4. Check together what happens when you buy something without planning ahead, compared to when there's a plan ready.
Challenge for champions5. Ask your child to invent a new safeguard for a problem that keeps happening to them, an object or a habit that would prevent it before it even happens.
6. Try together to think of something bad that happened in the past, and plan together what preliminary action could have prevented it.
