Ideas for Principle #3
💡 A pencil is mostly made of wood for writing, but it has an "eraser superpower" at its tip!
A preschool lunchbox with separate compartments - one for fruit, one for a sandwich and one for a snack - each compartment has its own superpower.
A toothbrush with soft bristles so it won't hurt your gums, but with a hard plastic handle for a comfortable grip.
How do we find our own "superpower"?
It's not always simple - not because we don't have one, but because a lot of the time we do it without noticing, so naturally that we forget it's even something special.
Maybe it's sensing when a friend is sad even before they've said a word, and knowing exactly what would make them feel better. Maybe it's listening all the way through without interrupting, and making someone feel truly heard. And maybe it's simply finding the funny side even when something goes wrong.
So what's your superpower?
Ready for a challenge? We've prepared some extra challenges for you to try
Try checking together. Take two different pencils at home and test which one is best for delicate drawing and which one is best for quick writing. What makes the difference?
Easy
1. Check two pairs of socks together, a regular pair and a sports pair, and discover what in each one fits its job exactly.
2. Ask your child: which part of your body is the best match for the task it does, and why.
A bit of a stretch
3. Choose two different writing tools together, for example a marker and a pencil, and test which type of paper or surface each one works best on.
4. Ask your child to rank, in order of importance, three goals they want to save toward, and then check together whether their pocket money is divided according to that order.
Challenge for champions
5. Ask your child to design a new tool that has at least two different parts, each one fitting a different task exactly.
6. Choose an object at home together and try to think about what it would look like if every part of it were identical to the rest, with no personal fit at all, and talk about what would change.
